TOO SMALL. you are squeezing past everyone, the bar line is long. outside patio would be great if it wasn’t blocked off everywhere. not sure if this is the case all the time
cbgb- 4/5
good location, good sound, cheap beer, two patios. love it
off broadway 5/5
balcony is free! love that. there’s not a bad place to stand either, visibility is good. sound is good too. good location, pretty easy to park. there’s one bartender that i don’t love but that’s okay. gorgeous patio as well
sinkhole 1/5
too small, nowhere to sit, nowhere to go when it’s too loud (which is all the time), dangerous area, can’t use the parking lot across the street anymore so you can’t keep an eye on your car which sucks. i’m not even really a sound person but it typically sounds very bad here, i’ve been avoiding it for awhile. it sucks that this is the easiest place to book

vibey. out of the way but rootwad park rocks. roof seems like a vibe but then it’s gentrified up there unfortunately. nowhere to sit and no lights, i come up the stairs and immediately go back down. the rooftop has so much potential, someone help
heavy anchor 2.5/5
i feel perfectly neutral about this location
the luminary 3/5
i have positive feelings toward this location

venice cafe- 0.5/5
i would say 0 except that i like the sexy bathroom upstairs. and agreed with #1 that the patio would rock if it wasnt closed off. loud, crowded, bad chairs, expensive bullshit drink selection, creepy old men everywhere.
cbgb- 2.5/5
controversial i know, but it bores me there. i walk in and am immediately filled with an aura of boredom. not sure how even. can't point to any specific thing that brings about the boredom. i like the toilets facing each other, duh. how could you possibly hate on toilets facing each other? i also do not like that spot with the door to the bathroom/back patio/the cig machine...it is soooo jammed right there. the social vibe is too cliquey, not enough mingling! also lots of creepy men :(
off broadway- 4.5/5
pretty much awesome, a classic midsize venue. i loooove the tub in the top greenroom. that thing rocks. i like the fire pits a lot. since it is a midsize venue, it isnt a great "stop in and hang out" kind of place, which takes away it's half point. otherwise, awesome.
sinkhole- 3.5/5
can't lie, i love this venue as a venue. it is like if a house show was a place. the dingy vibe is awesome and i like so much about it. i enjoy the variety of events hosted here. i enjoy watching from outside the front windows, i like sitting in the bay windows inside, i like how funny of a place it is. i hate the mural on the wall, with an undying passion. sorry to the artist, it's not that it is poorly done, it just for some reason makes me feel scared and distracted. maybe it is just a ptsd thing. i like the bathroom on the left but not the bathroom on the right. also the creepy men problem from cbgb persists :(
william kerr foundation- 4/5
most accessible venue in several regards. i love the location, since it is so on it's own you can really get your freak on. the sink/kitchen situation is unmatched. great for an open-air event. three bathrooms!!! i like how diverse the events can be due to the various spaces. i like the roof as a concept but wish that part which looks like it can be a covered area actually was. watching the sunset and night sky up there is one of my favorite things ever. as a location it is one of the best spots in st louis, to me. i have booked it just to hang out with like 10 people there before and will do it again. i love to be there.
rootwad- 5/5
perfect spot for a generator show.
heavy anchor- 2/5
i do not really like this place. entering is always tense, i am bored once i am in there, and the back patio is too small. they should have a free pool table and i think that would improve the vibe there significantly. the stage situation is also weird, it is too serious a stage for not serious enough of a venue.

i have only been here a couple of times. it can feel a little too gentrified for my taste, but i have not been there enough to form a full opinion.
platypus- 2/10
it does not surprise me that reviewer #1 did not think to include it. the two performers at once thing is insane. the back patio is a good enough escape from the chaos inside, but a little bit too much escape because i can not tell if the band is playing or not from outside, so i have to go in and out through that tight ass hallway and through all the people to even find out if it is time to go inside and then if it isn't i have to go all the way back out and eventually back in again. the food there is good, so that is nice. the show room is regularly uncomfortably cramped. but, when the show is happening i can sometimes have fun.
moshmellow- not applicable
while i have a lot of thoughts on the space, i can not articulate a review. many people tell me "fuck that place" but no one tells me a real reason why. i am open to "fuck that place" being how i feel, as above with my several complaints about creepy men etc. i feel sad that it got such an immediate bad reputation *simply* for being in the same space as foam, but also i do not think it has done anything particularly sensational to break free of that bad reputation, so i can't feel too bad about that for long. the marketing is sooooo atrocious for the business and the ai art stuff is so fucking lame. i like that they have a tetris machine that they keep on free play mode, though.
[redacted]- 5/5
i do not want to even say the name of my favorite venue in the city bc it is the only place i see shows that is full of almost exclusively women (never seen more than 3 men there at once) and is also the only venue i have never seen a predator at and i would like it to stay that way, but i do want to state that there is at least one music venue in stl that is totally awesome. the orientation of the room is highly challenging, but it is due to limitations of the building and everything else is so awesome that i dont even give a fuck.

venice cafe- 1/5
Near where I live which is its only selling point. I like the mosaics in theory & I appreciate that there’s tons of shit everywhere on the walls & hanging from the ceiling. No good shows or events or reasons to be there
cbgb- 3.5/5
Central location, cash only, cheap drinks, good bands (usually) but a lot of leering lonely men. I love the toilets facing each other (duh) & the double outdoors space. I like that I can hang out there & see lots of different friends or make new friends & it’s generally a very social space. If I stay there for a few hours I usually get to see a bunch of my friends
off broadway- 4.5/5
Ok it’s awesome here, best patio of all the venues I can think of, the fire pit rock. Big space for the audience, the bartenders are nice <3
sinkhole- 4.5/5
I love it here. I love Carondolet area, & the people who hang around the neighborhood. I like that it’s cash only. They book good shows & I love the wooden floor for how the acoustics reverberate thru my whole body :) I also love that I can sit outside (to cool off, avoid the crowd) but still hear the whole show :)
william kerr foundation- 4/5
She rocks. Lots of spaces, kitchen area, many bathrooms. Annoying to get to bc the walk from the bus stop is kinda far away :/
rootwad- :(/5
Cool spot for a show but sucks bc it must be disruptive to all the people living out there in the bandos. At least the Kerr has bathrooms, free water, etc
heavy anchor- ?/5
Couldn’t tell you the last time I was here. No thoughts
luminary- 3/5
Nice big space for lots of chairs, good for poetry events imo. I like the bookstore next door. Neutral on it as a whole, has no real personality
platypus- 0.5/5
I hate the grove. Plus Platypus doesn’t put the prices of their drinks on the menu. I have been to 2 or 3 shows there & I don’t like it.
moshmellow- 1/5
I agree with reviewer #2 that everyone hates it for no discernible reason BUT also I agree that it sucks. The name for one & bands have left saying “I’m never booking at moshmellow again” (but don’t say why). Clientele seems to run younger so I figure im not the intended demographic
[redacted]- 5/5
Ok I agree with reviewer #2, this place rocks <3 It’s a tight space but very lovely. I wish drinks were cheaper but I just don’t drink when I go there
